Urgent Action Alert

Background

Two significant actions related to abstinence education require immediate action

  1. Title V Abstinence education block grant for states is set to expire June 30 (today)

  2. Abstinence education zeroed out in the President's Budget for 2010 with debate beginning when the House returns after the July 4 recess.

What to Say To Your Congressional Member

I am calling to urge Rep/Sen [name] to stand with youth in our state by supporting continued funding for abstinence education. Without your help 2.5 million students will be losing the skills they need to prevent pregnancy, STDs, and the other possible consequences of sexual activity.

Specifically,

  • Title V funding must be reauthorized so that states continue to have the option to provide abstinence education.
  • Abstinence education must be continued within the 2010 budget so that individual communities continue to have the option to provide abstinence education.

Please let the committees who will decide the fate of these programs know that abstinece education must continue. Thank you.
