Action Alert: States Submit Preliminary Application for Title V Abstinence Education Grants

August 30 marked the deadline for states to communicate their intent to apply for the abstinence education block grant designated for states.  For information on your state’s decision on this crucial funding, consult a state-by-state scorecard created by NAEA.

ACTION ITEM:

Call and then write to your governor to express either appreciation or outrage for their decision on Title V Abstinence Education.

• If your governor accepted Abstinence Education funds, thank them for placing a priority on the risk avoidance message that best benefits teens' sexual health.

• If your governor chose to deny the best health message to your state’s teens, let them know that this is a decision that compromises their sexual health and turns back funds that could augment your state’s budget in support of a clear risk avoidance approach for teens.

The NAEA fact sheet on Title V may be helpful in your communication.

Locate your governor’s contact information here.
